About Us
Located in Hoyland, ‘Barnsley Today’ magazine holds the distinction of being the foremost lifestyle publication in the South Barnsley areas. Bursting with news, perspectives, opinions, and captivating features, they also serve as a valuable source of information about local events and activities. My name is Peter Holmes, and as the magazine’s publisher, I take great pride in overseeing the entire production process. Our small, yet highly efficient team work tirelessly to bring our publications to life. Alongside me, I am fortunate to have an exceptional local graphic designer who contributes significantly to the magazine’s visual appeal and layout. Additionally, a dedicated team of talented local contributors consistently deliver outstanding content. Lastly, I must express gratitude for our diligent and hardworking distribution team, without whom none of our achievements would be possible.
Distribution
Our distribution teams plays a pivotal role in our success by meticulously hand-delivering 19,500 copies of ‘Barnsley Today’ magazines each month. We ensure that every home and business in the following areas—Hoyland, Hoyland Common, Platts Common, Blacker Hill, Elsecar, Hemingfield, Jump, Wombwell, Birdwell, Worsbrough Village, Pilley, Pilley Green, and Tankersley – all receive a copy of one of our magazines on a monthly basis.
To maintain transparency, we compile comprehensive distribution sheets on a monthly basis. This allows us to precisely track the delivery of each magazine. Unlike other local publications, we do not believe in simply dropping off piles of magazines at various pick-up points around the Barnsley area, hoping that they will be noticed and read. We also refrain from randomly delivering to selected streets within broad postcode areas. Instead, I take great pride in emphasising that ‘Barnsley Today’ magazine is personally hand-delivered directly into letterboxes each month. I firmly believe that advertisers deserve to have their advertisements seen, rather than just being left in a pile of magazines, relying on a chance encounter with passersby.

Inside the magazine, you’ll find a selection of recurring editorial features that our readership eagerly anticipate each month. Among them, our well-received property section holds a prominent position near the centre pages each month. Additionally, we provide regular editorial coverage on a diverse range of subjects, including Health & Beauty, Food reviews featuring insights from our esteemed local food connoisseurs in our popular ‘In the Mood for Food’ segment, Gardening, Legal matters, Education, Lifestyle, and Travel. Moreover, we feature bi-monthly editorial articles on Computers & Technology, Social Media, Nature and other intriguing topics that captivate our readers’ interest.
Artwork
We take pride in offering our customers a complimentary service by providing artwork for their advertisements in the magazine at no additional cost. This means that the price you pay for your advertisement includes the creation of the artwork. However, all proofs we send out are in a low-resolution format, ensuring they cannot be reproduced by other publications prior to their appearance in Barnsley Today magazine without obtaining our explicit permission beforehand.
Rest assured, no advertisement is ever published without the advertiser’s approval. To maintain transparency and ensure satisfaction, a copy of the magazine is always personally hand-delivered or sent out via first-class post to advertisers on the day preceding the first day of distribution.
